1. Your vehicle is first raised from the ground and securely supported on axle stands before the removal of the damaged wheels. We have full and comprehensive public liability insurance which covers you while we work on your car. |
2. The wheel is then cleaned to remove brake dust and grease. The tyre is then deflated and pushed back from the wheel rim. Because we do not remove the tyre, you will not have to get your wheels re-balanced unless we have to remove any weights from the rim. |
3. Various techniques are used to remove corrosion and to repair the damage. Our workshop is fully equipped to deal with most damage except very severe corrosion. If the alloy has a polished edge, this can now be re-cut and re-finished to a highly polished shine. |
4. The wheel is then wrapped in polythene and masked to protect the tyre etc from overspray and to prevent any dirt and contaminants from affecting the surface to be painted. The wheel is then fully de-greased and prepped ready for the painting process. |
5. Next step is a coat of etch primer to aid adhesion to the bare metal areas. Two to three coats of high build primer come next and when fully dry, sanded smooth to accept the base colour. Again the whole wheel is cleaned of any dust from flattening the primer. |
6. The wheel is then painted to match the original colour or alternatively, painted a colour of your choice. Anything from two to seven coats of basecoat are applied, depending on the required finish. Please let us know in advance if you require a special or unusual colour. |
7. Two coats of high quality, extremely hard wearing, scratch resistant high gloss lacquer completes the painting process. A satin or matt finish is also available if you prefer on request. The lacquer is then baked dry using high intensity infra-red heat lamps. |
8. When the lacquer has dried, the masking is removed and the valve centre replaced. After a final inspection the tyre is dressed and inflated to the correct pressure. The wheel is re-fitted to the vehicle and the wheel nuts or studs tightened to the correct torque setting. |
9. Your refurbished wheels are now unaffacted by rain etc, and you can drive your vehicle as normal. However, your wheels must not be washed for at least 24 hours and avoid using any chemicals or a jetwash for seven days. This is to allow time for the lacquer to fully cure. |
